About Alex

Hi, Welcome to my website. I hope you like it. It has been put together by some good friends of my family. I am 11 years old and my main hobby is skiing. I also enjoy cricket, kayaking, fishing, and playing the drums.

I started skiing at Norfolk Snowsports Club when I was 5. My friend had started having lessons and mentioned it to my Mum. Until then we didn’t know Norfolk had a dry ski slope, after all it is quite a flat county.   Anyway I joined the Polar bears group and loved it.

Since then I joined Junior Club and trained every Saturday working my way through the different junior groups (Kadets, Kestrels, Hawks and finally Eagles).   I also joined the Friday evening Wannabe Race Group.  This was great as it gave me my first chance to race and then in 2012 I entered my first proper race – the First ERSA Schools Race.  I was in year 2 at the time and had just turned 7 so was up against kids who were 10 and even 11 years old.  I finished 5th overall and loved it so much that I then carried on and did the entire ERSA season.   At the end of the season I was the overall U8 ERSA Champion.

During that time Stuart Richies, who was the head race coach at Norfolk invited me to join the Norfolk Race team.  I now train once or twice a week for a couple of hours each time with the Race Team.

In my second year of racing I moved up to the U10 category and was able to ski at National races.  I attended a number of Club nationals, the All England and British outdoor champs. Results can be found here.

The next obvious step was to ski out on snow and enter some of the British races.  My first snow  race was the Dual Slalom in Les Houches at the Anglo Scottish.  It was terrible weather.  Sleeting and freezing cold but amazingly I came first.

The highlight of 2014 so far has been winning the U10 title at the All England.  It is the 39th time this race has been held and the trophy gives the names of some great skiers who have previously won it.

I feel very lucky that I can ski, represent my school  and train at Norfolk Snowsports Club.  This winter season I will be skiing and training with Team Evolution.

I can’t wait :)
